We use the newest HFO blowing agent (the component that makes spray foam expand). It has a zero ozone depletion potential and a low global warming potential. Choosing spray foam ensures you meet or exceed the newest Ontario Building Codes and increases the energy efficiency of your home.
In most cases, open wall cavities are needed to install spray foam insulation into the walls of your home. This makes new construction and major renovation projects ideal opportunities to install spray foam for its air sealing benefit. In areas that are traditionally left open or have no cavities, such as a basement, crawlspace or attic, spray foam is always an option worth considering.
The blowing agent in spray foam makes it expand up to 30 times its original volume. This allows it to fill and expand in any gaps and crevices it enters. This duality means you can easily insulate and air seal your basement or crawlspace walls and headers in a single project. We can also install spray foam to crawlspaces beneath stationary mobile homes.
Spray polyurethane foam insulation is unique from other types of insulation. It is a liquid that is produced on site by combining isocyanate and resin, and is sprayed directly onto the surface you are insulating. When using 2lb spray foam, the result is a seamless insulation and air sealing solution that also provides an air and vapour barrier. When using 1/2lb spray foam, your home still benefits from a seamless coat of insulation.
At Great Northern Insulation, we seek out and install some of the most sustainable insulation products available. We became one of the first insulation companies to only install spray foam with zero ozone depletion potential and low global warming potential. Regardless of the insulation product you choose, insulation will help increase the energy efficiency of your home and reduce your carbon footprint.

Adding professionally installed insulation to your basement, whether finished or unfinished, will help improve your home’s energy efficiency, add sound proofing and help control moisture and mould.
Planning your basement insulation project requires an experienced and professional eye to thoroughly inspect the space for mould and moisture, as well as often overlooked air leakage areas such as penetrations and rim joists. Your insulation plan may include a seamless application of spray foam from your basement floor to the rim joists. This solution provides superior insulative value and the benefits of an air and vapour barrier to achieve optimal energy efficiency performance and moisture control.
Is insulating and air sealing basement rim joists important?
Basement rim joists, also known as headers, are a commonly overlooked source of unwanted drafts, pollen and vermin. Ensuring this area is insulated and air sealed as part of your insulation project will help improve the energy efficiency of your home and provide superior temperature and moisture control.
We insulate crawlspaces beneath homes, cottages and mobile homes. Insulating a crawlspace requires a different approach from a basement, and depends on whether the area is conditioned or unconditioned, or is located off the basement. We have experience with insulating stand-alone crawlspaces and basement-crawlspace hybrids, providing our customers with a single solution.
We insulate basement ceilings as part of larger renovations or as part of smaller project. Whether you are creating a basement apartment, home theatre, rec room or studio, sound batts installed in the basement ceiling can help reduce sound transfer to the main floor.
We insulate basement floors with spray foam insulation. This is typically completed during the construction of new homes and as part of a radon mitigation system. If you are interested in basement or subslab insulation, please contact us for more information.
Our insulation specialists will expertly install insulation to the interior or exterior of your basement walls. The area around your basement walls should be exposed and accessible as either part of an excavation or a new build.
You can finance your insulation project with us through Financeit. Our financing options are flexible and can be paid off in full at any time. Interest rates range from 8.99% to 12.99% based on your credit rating. Best of all, you can be pre-approved online before you receive your quote. Contact us for more information.

Whether your basement is finished or unfinished, the goal of properly installed insulation and air sealing is to keep the space dry, comfortable and odour-free. This could be achieved by installing blanket wrap to the interior of an unfinished wall, or by adding fibreglass batts to your finished basement wall system. Alternatively, spray foam can be included as part of almost any basement retrofit and provides air and vapour barrier benefits to achieve maximum basement performance.

Basements can account for up to 20 percent of a home’s total heat loss. This is due to the large, uninsulated surface area both above and below grade level. Insulating this space helps maintain a consistent temperature in your basement year round.
