Top Up vs Insulation Removal and Reinstallation

Professionally installed insulation will increase your energy efficiency, reduce your heating and cooling costs, regulate room temperature and improve noise pollution. Depending on your needs, we will install new, top-up existing or remove old insulation. There are a few factors that can help determine which approach is best.

How do I know if I need to have insulation removed?

If your attic has no vapour barrier, an old vapour barrier, or no longer functioning vapour barrier, removal is necessary to mitigate or avoid any moisture issues.

Your insulation was installed years ago. Insulation functions by trapping air. When insulation, such as cellulose, has settled over time and becomes compacted, it no longer functions well.

You had a leaky roof and the water damaged your insulation.

Your home has older wiring so you need to remove the old insulation to provide access to upgrade the wiring.

You are doing significant repairs or renovations. Full insulation removal allows for access to areas that need air sealing such as wire chases, junction boxes, vent stacks, bathroom/kitchen fans and/or pot lights.

Animals infested and contaminated an area that contains insulation.
